Documentary? What means that? People ask me this all the time. So i decided to sit down and write a post about it.
Documentary photography is not staged, or posed. It’s a photography style that focuses on the raw and real purest moments of life. When I come for a photoshoot I do not direct people where to stand, where to look, etc. My photo-sessions are relaxed and fun, I usually hang out with your family for couple of hours while you and your loved ones go on with the day. I tend to recommend to the families, especially families with children to plan an activity or a trip to somewhere. For example if the photo-session is planned to be at home - plan to cook something, plant a flower, or play a game, something that you usually do together during your days at home. But if you want something outside of your home, plan a trip to your favourite beach, or park or go bowling. I'll be there.
Focus on your every day routine and I will be there to capture those intimate family moments, the laughs... the cries... the joys... that you will look back on it for years to come.
You might think that the tantrums, the silly little faces, the everyday routine things you do all the time are not worth capturing - but oh, they are so much more worth than you think. There, is where the magic of your life really happens, the little peck on your cheek from your little bundle of joy, the unexpected hug from hubby in the kitchen to reassure you that everything is going to be ok, the falls, the jumps, the spills ... are magical. These are the moments that when they are gone we will miss them forever.
I recently had a photoshoot for a family of 4, mom, dad and their two boys (aged 2 and 5). It was a 2 hour photoshoot and the parents requested to have their photoshoot in the vicinity of their home and then have a short trip to their local park in Kobe. I came around 10:00 o’clock in the morning at their place, the mom planned for them to first play in their toy room all together, then we went to the park for 30 minutes, and the last hour was planned for them cooking their favourite lunch together. We both had great time and the kids didn’t even felt like they were being photographed.
These kind of photoshoots are ideal for families - they represent a day in your life - moments that don’t usually get documented, but they are full of real joy.
I offer 3 different packages for photoshoots, but if you have anything different in mind that I don’t have it mentioned here please feel free to contact me and we can work together on a package made specifically for you and your family.
