Osaka Flea Market
Visiting Osaka Flea Market - by a Family Photographer in Japan
Somewhere during the summer a friend of mine mentioned about the Osaka Flea Market held on every 21st of the month at Shittenoji Temple. I have never been someone who goes to every flea market, or ever been to a flea market, but I always wanted to visit one. I admire Japanese pottery but, the decision to buy something doesn’t comes easy. I always think 100 of times before I purchase something.
The idea of roaming around the flea market, while meeting locals, eating local food and taking pictures sounded amazing to me so I got up on the 21st early in the morning and hopped on the train to Osaka.
Shittenoji Temple is located in Tennoji Ward, Osaka and it’s a beautiful Buddhist Temple. The day I went it rained and it was a bit humid. There were plenty of stands with pottery around the temple so I actually had to think only once before I went in and purchased some things. Guilty me!
Many of the local sellers spoke a little bit of English and were super friendly. To my surprise there were some tourists here and there, but mostly were local people just shopping for goods. I would definitely go again some other time and I recommend it visiting if you are around Osaka.
Below are some photographs I took on that day.
