Kyoto, May 2024
As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, my brother was here in Japan few months ago. While he was here we planned a day in Kyoto just me and him. I haven’t been in Kyoto since Japan opened its borders for tourists. Walking through Kyoto with a 5 year old (at the time) can be challenging sometimes - the amount of people walking on the streets can be a little overwhelming for them.
I always say “I have to plan a day in Kyoto just by myself and shoot as much as the time allows me” but honestly that never happens. So my brother was a good excuse to make the trip, he gets to see the beautiful Kyoto and I get to shoot.
We went during a weekday hoping we would get a bit less people, which turned out to be true. It wasn’t as busy as I expected it to be, although the area around Fushimi Inari was really packed. But we did explore the neighbourhoods around which were far less busy than Fushimi Inari. Below the photographs that you will see are from Fushimi Inari, Ninenzaka and Sanenzaka area and Gion.
Gion seemed the least busy, I was not sure whether that was the case because recently on the news there was a lot of information about streets being restricted to tourists or restricted for photography - but honestly it didn’t feel like that. We did walk for about 2 hours around Gion and I only saw 2 very small alleys being forbidden for photography and on a little banner was written not to talk loud. Beside that everywhere else we walked was fine.
I had over 500 images from those couple of hours walking around Kyoto - but I was happy with only few of them, hope you will enjoy scrolling through them :) .
